Starting Halloween Family Traditions || Blogtober Day 13

The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other’s life. Rarely do members of one family grow up under the same roof.

-RICHARD BACH, Illusions

In our house, Halloween has always been so much more than just one night of dressing up in costumes and trick or treating. It’s a whole month of spooky and Halloween themed outings, activities, movies and music. Since having Molly, there are a few things that we have done this year ( or that we plan to do as she grows up ) that will get done every single year! Here are our Halloween family traditions..

Decorating the house

Up in our loft we have big boxes of decorations. Each labeled for the appropriate holiday, Christmas, Easter, Halloween etc We started it last year when we had our own place and decided we could add to it each year. Whether it be with stuff Molly makes as she grows up, things we buy every year or things we get when traveling.

Decorating for Halloween is so much fun. We have a few tasteful decorations from last year, little ceramic pumpkins, Hocus Pocus sign, some cute bunting. Now, we have fake cobwebs, spiders, jelly window stickers and more! We fully understand Molly is 10 months old, and her only concern throughout all of this is why we wont let her eat the jelly ghost window sticker, but to us, it’s memories. It’s starting a tradition. One we aim and hope to do carry on for years and years! When Molly gets older, I already plan to make a load of Halloween decorations with her, and hold a Halloween party for her and her friends. Yeah – I’m going to be that kind of mum!

Visiting a Pumpkin Patch

I’d done this a few times before having Molly and love it. There’s something special about going and picking your own pumpkin from a field than popping to Asda to grab one out of a giant box! We went to Garsons farm to take some photos and grab some pumpkins back in late Sept. We plan to go to Tully’s Farm and get pumpkins that we can have fun carving!

Carving Pumpkins

I have been carving pumpkins for as long as I can remember. Maybe not so much as an adult..no, that’s a lie I still do it at work! I can’t wait to do it this year with Molly. We may get to do it twice, once with Liam’s parents and once with my mum and brother as they are visiting towards the end of the month.

Making Halloween Themed Treats!

Having a child for me means an excuse to make themed food! Last year I made pumpkin pie and it was pretty good! This year we can make pumpkin and ghost shaped cookies, and decorate them with Halloween themed colours and sprinkles. Pinterest is my best friend with 95% of all the things I come up with or want to do. It’s amazing for things like this!

Halloween movie nights!

We have our decorations, we have our snacks we are ready for movie night! Family film nights are something I love to do, even more so when its around a certain holiday, be it Halloween or Christmas. I made list of family friendly Halloween films that we have been enjoying throughout October. Make the room cosy AF, get your hot chocolate, get your snacks and stick on a film or two. Perfect!

Family Costumes.

I haven’t dressed up for Halloween in so long. But on of the things I was really looking forward to when I had a family of my own, was family costumes. Having been to Walt Disney World for Halloween back in 2015, I saw a lot of family costumes.  We are hopefully going to go to Disneyland Paris next year for Halloween and do Mickeys not to scary Halloween party. To be honest, I’d love to Disney bound as a family every day anyway! Liam and I have a few ideas up our sleeves and we can’t wait to choose one!
