If you have been following our blog for a while, You’ll know that we currently live with Liam’s parents so we can try and save for a mortgage. We know we are going to be here long term, that’s a given. But it doesn’t stop us from dreaming up things we want for our little one. I long for the day where we have our own garden, where we can fill it with things for Molly to do. Mud kitchens, a swing, her own little vegetable patch complete with a bug hotel. We decided that as Molly is becoming more and more independent, and is now running around all over the place, we needed to get her some things to play with outdoors! Especially with Spring just around the corner!
So when Big Game Hunters asked me if I’d like to test out their Evermeadow House we jumped at the chance!
Putting it together…
The Evermeadow House is a beautiful wooden playhouse aimed at children 18 months plus, making it the perfect size for younger ones. It arrived so quickly after ordering and came in two boxes. It Is super simple to put together, you could even put it together on your own if you wanted/needed to. Each piece of wood is numbered, the screws are divided into marked bags, making sorting through and finding which piece goes where with what screw really quick, easy and stress free. We had to wait for the snow to melt before building it, but Liam and his dad managed to put it up within 20 minutes or so with no complications.
Painting it…
The house arrives as plain as plain can be. They recommend that you either treat the wood, if you want to leave it natural, or paint it. This allows you to get your creative juices flowing and decorate how you like! We decided we wanted to paint ours. However, It was a few days before we could paint the house due to snow and cold weather. We took a trip to our local Homebase to find a colour that we both liked, we knew straight away that we didn’t want anything too bright and in your face. We found the perfect teal shade called Seagrass by Cuprinol for the outside, and I got the White Daisy for the inside. Once the snow had passed and it warmed up a little, we got painting!!
Painting the house was really easy and a lot quicker than I thought. Because the wood absorbs the paint incredibly well, it dried very quickly. We were able to give the outside 2 coats of paint because by the time we painted the last bit, the first was already dry! I only gave the inside 1 coat. I plan to go back in there and give it another coat, as well as putting up some bunting that we have got.
Personalising it…
The only thing I would say was frustrating and I know has frustrated others, is that the front window has a piece of wood running down the middle on the inside. You can’t take this piece of wood out to paint, meaning it stays a wooden colour and it doesn’t match! We have slowly added a few touches to the playhouse. We live at number 3, so it was a given that the playhouse should be 3a. This was Liams dad’s idea and I thought it was super cute. We have had to put a lock on the door as living where we do, we get a few overnight visitors, and I wouldn’t want them to do anything nasty in the house if you get my drift!
We still have burlap bunting with white hearts to go up, as well as a window box for the two windows and solar powered fairy lights. I’d also love to attach a large chalk board to the side of the house for her to doodle on. We are also going to be felting the rood once the rain buggers off and we can get out there to do it just to ensure it is completely weather proof.
Overall…
Molly absolutely loves her little house. The first time she saw it she kept closing the door saying “bye bye”. Too damn cute! The in laws got Molly a little table a chair set that sits outside her house. She also has her wooden rocking chair is already in there. I honestly can’t wait for warmer weather. We can not only finish the playhouse, but so we can spend our days put in the sun. Get the bubble machine out, play music, get the paddling pool out and have picnics outside the playhouse every single day!
Above is a side by side before and after, so you can see what we have done to it so far. Its such a wonderful and classic little house, that you can personalize to how you want it to look. I would honestly 100% recommend this to anyone who is looking to buy one. You can currently purchase the playhouse for £99. I know this will last years so hopefully our future children can enjoy it too.
Hi I just wondered what kind of blocks you put underneath to keep it off the ground. Thanks x
