I’ve always been one to enjoy audio books. It means I can carry on with things that need to be done, but able to enjoy a book at the same time. When I became a mother, I found a love for podcasts. During the late night feeds where I needed something other than Gilmore Girls on repeat.
These days podcasts are my go to. I’ll often put one of while washing the dishes, folding the washing or cooking dinner and allow myself a little ‘me’ time. An added bonus is that I remember that I’m not in this alone.
Here are some of my favorite podcasts I’ve listened to over the last 2 years.
Get Your Glow Back
Get your glow back is the newest podcast on the list for me. It was this Episode with Emma Ross (Mamalina) that introduced me to Madeleine’s Podcast – and I am so ruddy grateful! It is a wellness podcast for Mamas. She talks about navigating motherhood – from sleeping, to encouraging your kids to eat well to strengthening your pelvic floor, and of course loving and looking after yourself!
Coffee + Crumbs
The Coffee + Crumbs Podcast grew out of the Coffee + Crumbs website, an online journal filled with essays about motherhood. The Podcast starts off this affirmation:
“We believe motherhood is a gift. An art, not a science. We believe it takes a village to raise our children and motherhood is better when we stick together. Most of all, we believe that you are a great mum”
As an often overwhelmed and anxious Mama, hearing this sentiment makes me feel a little less shit shall we say. Check out coffee and crumbs to be uplifted and entertained.
Unruffled
Hosted by Janet Lansbury, a parenting expert and the author of two books about babies and toddlers. This podcast is on my absolute must-have list for anyone with small children.
I tend to use this podcast when I need specific advice for coping with my toddler. Janet addresses a listener’s parenting issue in each episode and it’s amazing being about to scroll through past podcasts to find answers to the issues I’m currently dealing with. I love Janet’s balance between allowing respectful parenting while also explaining how to set firm parental limits.
If you find yourself loving her advice you should also check her books No Bad Kids: Toddler Discipline Without Shame and Elevating Child Care: A Guide to Respectful Parenting.
Happy Mum Happy Baby
If you don’t know the beaut that it Giovanna Fletcher, then where the fecking heck have you been? Gi Started this Podcast back in 2017 and I’ve been a avid listener for the whole journey. Each episode is a frank and warm conversation with other high-profile mum’s and dads, discussing all aspects of parenthood. Each episode is truly unique yet unifying. No topic is out of bounds, therefore this podcast is essential listening for any parent seeking solidarity and support
The Longest Shortest Time
While this podcast is HUGE I’ve only stumbled upon it the last few months. That being said it’s becoming one of my go-to listening choices. This podcast covers a wide variety of parenting topics. It’s very well established and it has a huge library of episodes which means that you’re likely to find episodes to put on your must listen to list. I’ve laughed, I’ve cried. This podcast is amazing!
The Mom Hour
Hosts Megan and Sarah have eight kids between them, ranging in age from preschool to teen. Their weekly podcast which started back in 2015, aims to help you feel better about the mom you are today and to give you a bit of added confidence as you move through motherhood. Sharing their own tips and stories, they are sure to have you nodding along and agreeing with them 95% of the time. I know I do!
Dirty Mother Pukka
This is the best podcast I have ever found. So witty and entertaining. I have the mother pukka book too and it’s just hilarious. These podcasts got me through my pregnancy and many a sleepless night with a newborn. Be warned though, it can be embarrassing laughing out loud, by yourself in public! This is not just a podcast for people who happen to be parents – it appeals to all! This podcast is brilliantly honest and absolutely hilarious! Nothing is off limits!
Edit Your Life
Hosts Christine and Asha promise to help you edit the unnecessary from your life so you have room to enjoy the awesome. These authors of Minimalist Parenting are all about simplifying your life and their podcast will give you a mass amount of inspiration and practical tactics to do so.
