Last month, Maisie shared her 101 in 1001 challenge over on her blog and it inspired me to create my own. If you haven’t heard about it, the 101 in 1001 challenge was originally invented by New Zealander, Michael Green. Day Zero is an online community for the list lovers and challenge setters in life! If you’re good at math, you’ll notice that that’s a list that spans almost three years. About 2 years and 9 months to be a little more precise. And the magic about that amount of time is that it gives you a LOT of time to accomplish big goals, while still having a time limit.
The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips, study semesters, or outdoor activities. – Day Zero Project
101 IN 1001 GUIDELINES
Day Zero came up with a few guidelines for the challenge to help keep participants on track:
Tasks must be specific: No ambiguity in the way the goal is written. The result should either be measurable or clearly defined.
Tasks must also be realistic and stretching: Represent some amount of work on your part. This encourages you to work harder and experience satisfaction when achieving each task.
Tasks must be completed in 1001 days: 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year. It allows you several seasons to complete the tasks so if you miss a seasonal goal the first time round there’s a second and possibly even third chance to complete it! It is a better time scale for organising and timing some tasks such as travelling or activities that require a little more prep.
Maisie also shared a key that she came across that will make it clear and show when a goal has been completed. This is a perfect way to keep track of completed tasks. I’m also going to create a physical list to keep to hand to keep me motivated!
