Plastic Free Christmas Wrapping With Curlicue

This post features gifted items

It’s no secret that a lot of gift wrapping paper contains plastic? I had no idea until this time last year. It looks just like paper, how can it contain plastic? But gift paper manufacturers have been sneaking it in for years. How can you tell if gift paper contains plastic? Scrunch it up in to a ball. If it’s just paper it should stay scrunched up. If it contains plastic, it will unfold and smooth out much more easily. More elaborately designed paper, shiny paper, and paper with glitter is most likely to contain plastic.Did you know that at Christmas alone, UK households throw 277 thousand miles of wrapping paper away – that’s 100 million rolls!

So, how do you avoid this I hear you ask. You can wrap your presents in brown paper, which is a firm favorite with many. You can personalise to your hearts content, but it is a lot more time consuming and can lack a little bit of Christmas colour.

That’s where Curlicue come in! Curlicue is a UK based company that makes and produces wrapping paper for all occasions. It’s made out of 100% recycled paper using vegetable based ink. It uses waterless and chemical free processes to maintain a low carbon footprint. All the paper can be shipped as rolled sheets in a recyclable cardboard box so that it arrives crease free.

When the paper arrived I was pleasantly surprised. It came rolled up, meaning there were not creases of folds in the paper. It is beautiful paper that I can’t wait for Molly to see on Christmas day. My personal favorites are the Nutcracker and the Winter Woodland paper. I have already has some family members ask where I got it from, and commented on how pretty it looks.

Curlicue also do Birthday wrapping paper, which I can’t wait to get my hands on! They also provide bespoke paper fr any occasion, just pop them a message and talk your ideas through. This is such an amazing product that I hope many people look into when looking into making sustainable changes this festive season!
