Exploring the world of Hypnobirthing

I have always been intrigued with Hypnobirthing and the concept behind it. For some reason, and I don’t know why, I didn’t attempt it with Molly. Don’t get me wrong, I had a wonderful birth with Molly, I wanted a water birth, but because of the SPD I wasn’t allowed one. depending on the severity of SPD this pregnancy, I really want to try a water/Hypnobirth this time round.

For those who aren’t familiar with Hypnobirthing, it is a birthing method that uses self-hypnosis and relaxation techniques to help a woman feel physically, mentally and spiritually prepared and reduce her awareness of fear, anxiety and pain during childbirth. It doesn’t mean any specific kind of birth: it can be compatible with vaginal births, C sections, inductions; pain relief free births and home births; medicated and hospital births.

I have heard such amazing and positive things about Hypnobirth. There is a company called The Positive Birth Company who provide Hypnobirthing classes as well as a online digital course. I know a few people now who have purchased the digital pack and have raved about it!  Honestly,I can’t wait to make my purchase after Christmas! Maybe I’ll do regular updates on how I find it as I go along.

Getting started..

I have already created a Hypnobirthing playlist on Spotify. Full of calming and relaxing music. Some meditation/spa music, some from Hypnobirthing albums, some just calm, slow songs that I enjoy listening to. I have started to listen to them, whilst defusing lavender essential oils and taking deep breaths. Trying to get my body to associate the scent of lavender, and the sound of the music to be relaxing. I have ordered a spray bottle that I’ll pop my oil in, mixed with a little water to create a room spray if my oil diffuser isn’t allowed. I am also going to get a small roll on bottle to put oil in so I can roll in on my skin during labour. Amy from Amyjaneandbaby recommended these battery powered candle like lights, so they are on my to buy list on Amazon in a attempt to create a calming atmosphere.

I never created a “birth plan” with Molly. But this time round I think I may create a “birth preference” as I’m fully aware anything can happen before and during labour that may be completely out of my control. I am excited to start this journey and see where it takes us. But It was recommended as a good way to illiterate what you’d like before hand.

Have you had a positive Hypnobirth experience? I’d love to hear about it!
