Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic | Review

Liam and I are very well known for doing things spontaneously. We have an idea and we roll with it. I had been wanting to take Molly to see Disney on Ice for a very long time, but have been worried shed be too young. If you know me and my Background with Disney ( I am an Ex DCL Cast Member ) you’ll know the magic runs deep and I don’t care who knows it! During the Crimbo Limbo, Molly and I were doing our usual thing of watching Disney on Ice on Youtube. I decided to have a look and see if any tickets were still available. Luck had it that there was only 1 set of 3 seats sat together left in the whole of the O2. I text Liam and bought the tickets within 10 minuets.

Disney on Ice are celebrating 100 years of magic this year. This current tour is a celebration of just that! The show explores more stories than ever before, featuring over 50 well loved characters. The show is presented by Micky, Minnie, Donald and Goofy as they explore Disney stories from the last 100 years.

The Show:

It opened with Micky and friends in a wonderful musical number, featuring Pinocchio that had everyone dancing and ready to go. Molly wasn’t sure what to do, and just sat there in complete amazement, embracing it all and clapping away to the music. That atmosphere was carried through the entire show!

The first story we explored was Finding Dory. I was amazed with the costumes and animatronics from the start, let alone the staging and set design. So clever, creative and completely immersive. The whole area screamed with excitement when Crush ( the giant turtle ) came out. I don’t think anyone was expecting it!

There was also the story of Beauty and the Beast, followed by iconic Disney couples dancing together. Everyone was excited to see their favourite Disney Princess! There was then a Frozen section.

The Frozen section opened with “For the first time in forever” with Princess Anna, leading to Olafs “Summer” ending with the infamous “let it go”. There were children and parents singing along, snow was falling – it was truly magical! This was by far the longest segment of the entire show, or at least it felt like it. So if your little one loves Frozen – It’s perfect!

The first half ended with Aladdin. This number was incredibly clever, with Genie multiplying and performing a wonderfully fun routine that had everyone laughing and clapping along.

The second half opened with the film we had been waiting for. Toy Story 4. Forky made his debut in a fun sketch alongside Woody, Jesse and Buzz. Molly is obsessed with all of the Toy Story films. She has a Buzz toy and got Woody for Christmas. She shouts “Yeeeee-Haw!” every time she sees Jesse, Which she did a lot during this segment. They cleverly created a giant rucksack, to make it seem you were the same size as the toys. Molly was giggling the whole time, shouting Buzz and just loving it – Which made us very happy.

Up next was Mulan, a very underrated Disney Princess in our opinion. It explored the whole story, from her meeting the match makers, to joining the army to then winning the war. Something we weren’t expecting was some pyrotechnics. They use some for the cannon that sets off the avalanche on the mountain. So clever how they performed that scene, using cloth to mimic the falling snow! There was also an appearance from a giant Chinese dragon that looked an awful lot like Mushu.

Last up was The Lion King. It featured Rafiki singing “circle of life”, Timone and Pumba singing “Hakkuna Matata” and then Simba and Narla performing a beautiful performance to “Can you feel the love tonight”.

The show ended with a fun, upbeat parade of all the characters that had performed in the show, all waving to the audience. It made me well up seeing so many children in complete awe of the characters the love and adore so much. Seeing Molly get so excited by seeing her favorite characters was truly heartwarming, and I am so glad shes a Disney nut like her mum.

Disney on Ice: What you need to know

How long is Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic? From start to finish, we were in there for just under two hours. This included an incredibly short interval at half time.

What age children is Disney on Ice suitable for? Personally I think it is suitable for all ages. However, if you have smaller children, or those who don’t cope well with loud noises, consider taking ear defenders as it can get extremely loud at times.

Is it cold watching Disney on Ice? It is decevingly warm. We had to take our coats off, and Molly was fine in her Elsa dress and tights.

Is Disney on Ice fun for adults? If you’re a Disney lover, than yes. 100%

Can I bring snacks and drinks into Disney on Ice? Sadly not. Security at the O2 is a little like airport security. You cant take food or drink into the arena. You can buy it once there, but its like £3.50 for a 500ml bottle of water and £5 for the equivalent of Mcdonalds small chips – Eat before you go.

Where is the best place to sit to watch Disney on Ice? This was out first time visiting, we were relatively high up due to booking very last minuet. I imagine sitting closer to the front, would be better, but not rink side. You want to still be able to see the whole ice rink for the best experience.

Can I bring a camera to Disney on Ice? Yes. We took our Canon and a Macro lens. As long as you don’t set up a tripod, I think you’re all good!

What to wear for Disney on Ice: A lot of the kids were dressed up as their favourite Disney Characters. Some adults were in Disney themed clothing, others were in normal attire. It is completely up to you! Just make sure its comfortable!

How do you get tickets for Disney on Ice? To see show times and buy tickets for the Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic tour, head to their website. It’s only on until Jan 5th 2020.
