Most of you know by now that we are expecting baby number 2 any day now. As it will probably be our last baby, we decided not to find out the gender and go Team Yellow! I thought it would be fun to do a post on us trying out gender predictions and old wives tales, and then seeing how many of them were true once little one has arrived!
Morning Sickness
Morning sickness is horrific and I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. Apparently, if you end up having morning sickness, you are having a girl. If you are one of the lucky ones and don’t have it at all, you are having a boy. I had really bad sickness with Molly. I have also had it again this time round, and for a longer period of time.
So the morning sickness gender predictor test = GIRL!
Cravings
They say that if you are craving salty things, you are expecting a boy. If you are craving all things sweet, then you are expecting a girl. Some of the combinations of food women report wanting to eat can be pretty comical. Here are a few of the combinations other mamas shared with me:
McDonalds & KFC – BOY
Everything Sweet – GIRLS
Cake Icing & Coke drink – BOY
Fruit & Coke Drink – GIRL
Carbs & Tomato Ketchup – GIRL
With Molly I craved McDonalds chips, and they had to be salty. Subway Veggie Patty subs & McCoys Thai Sweet Chicken crisps. Safe to say there was nothing sweet about any of them and I had a girl. This pregnancy I have craved Fresh Orange juice, cartons and cartons of fresh OJ.
So, the cravings prediction test means = GIRL
How You Carry Baby
As gender predictions go, how you’re carrying might help you determine boy or girl. The idea is that if you are all at the front you are having a boy. If you are all around, you are having a girl. With Molly I carried all around, granted it was all mainly water. This time I am very much carrying all out front. My back can definitely feel the difference!
This gender predictor test = BOY!
Beauty
In pregnancy, you either have that wonderful glowing look, with beautifully shiny thick hair. Or you come out in a face full of spots and greasy hair that just keeps falling out. The wives tales say that mamas who glow, are probably having a boy. Moms who experience acne and “dead-looking” hair, are in for a girl. I have had a few blemishes on my cheeks this pregnancy, but no major outbreaks. It hasn’t been as dry as normal and my hair has also been thicker and nicer!
My results for the beauty gender predictor test = BOY!
Baby’s Heart Rate
According to the tales, a boys heart rate will be <140, and girls are anything >140 beats per minute. They normally tell you your baby’s heart rate at your midwife appointments, as well as your scans. Molly’s heart rate was always above 140bpm. This little ones heart rate is never the same. It’s been above and it’s been below.
For the heart rate gender predictor test, my results are inconclusive!
Mayan Calendars
The Mayan gender prediction chart maps out both the mother’s age and the month the baby is conceived. If both numbers are either even or odd, the baby will be a girl. If one number is even and the other is odd, the baby will be a boy.
Based on the Mayan gender predictor, baby #2 will be a BOY!
Key Test
Ask the mama to be to pick up a key. If she picks it up from the wide end, she’s having a boy. If she picks it up from the narrow end, baby’s going to be a girl.
My results for the key gender predictor test = BOY!
I hope you enjoyed these fun gender predictions tests! Here are my results for those who are keeping track:
BOY = 4
GIRL = 2
INCONCLUSIVE = 1
